Fuzoku etiquette: 7 rules every foreigner should know
Many Japanese adult shops still say "Japanese only." Usually it's because of language worries — or one bad experience with a foreign guest. Follow these rules and you'll be welcome back, and so will the next foreigner.
1. What's included is decided before you start
Every licensed shop explains its courses up front. That's the deal. Asking the cast member for something outside it — or offering extra cash for it — is the fastest way to get thrown out. It can also put you on the wrong side of Japanese law: sex for money is illegal in Japan.
2. No photos, no video
Not of the cast member, not of the room, not "just a selfie." Keep your phone away. Shops take this extremely seriously.
3. Stop means stop
If the cast member says no, or stops, that's the end of it. Be the guest she'd be happy to see again.
4. Shower and hygiene come first
You'll be asked to shower before anything starts. Do it without fuss. Trim your nails before you go.
5. Come sober enough to be good company
A drink in Kiyamachi first is fine. Showing up drunk is not — many shops will turn you away at the door.
6. Pay what you were quoted
Ask for the total before you pay: course, nomination fee, extension, anything else. If the bill changes later, don't argue in the room — tell us, and we'll take it up with the shop.
7. Be on time, and cancel properly
A booking holds a cast member's time. If you'll be late, or can't come, contact the shop as early as you can.
